Interview

Liz Dolan has had a series of extraordinary jobs. She was Chief Marketing Office for Nike and for OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, Fox Sports, and National Geographic Channel. She’s in frequent demand as a speaker on the subject of global brands, marketing, and workplace/career issues. She’s also one of the legendary five “Satellite Sisters,” the five sisters who had a long-running, award-winning radio talk show, which has now turned podcast. She now also co-hosts Safe For Work, a terrific, thought-provoking workplace advice podcast.

Liz’s workplace mantra is “Strong. Calm. Kind.”

Her Try This at Work is “Never assume motive.” If you’re a fan of the TV show Game of Thrones, and want to see Littlefinger give Sansa the opposite advice, you can watch it here.

Gretchen’s Demerit: I always resist suggestions and edits from my agent or my editor — after ten minutes, I begin to accept them and think them through, but my initial response is always wild opposition. Even though I’m aware of this pattern, I do it every time, and I just did it again when my editor gave me my first set of edits for the draft of my next book Outer Order, Inner Calm.

Elizabeth’s Gold Star: Elizabeth gives a gold star to the podcast This Is Fifty with Sheri and Nancy. Sheri Salata, Executive Producer of the Oprah Winfrey Show and former Co-President of Harpo Studios and OWN and Nancy Hala, Chief Strategy Officer and Fortune 500 brand strategist, have set out to redefine the middle of life.
