Something Making Us (More) Happier

  • Elizabeth: She loves my new quiz, “What’s Your Neglected Sense?” It is so fun to have the quiz out in the world.
  • Gretchen: Many listeners will be happier to learn that we will never again mess with our sound the way we did in episode 422.

I’ve Been Meaning to Ask You

Elizabeth asked me whether spring actually makes me feel like doing spring cleaning. Answer: Yes.

We mention my book Outer Order, Inner Calm: Declutter & Organize to Make More Room for Happiness.

I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You

Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs football team, has a terrific program to encourage children to read for 15 minutes a day for 15 weeks (Mahomes’s football jersey number is 15).

I love repetition. Repetitions turn time into a place, turn the days into a house, where the repetitions form the walls, floor, and ceiling. Inside this building, this latticework of routines, it is as if time doesn’t pass, since every act and movement repeats the preceding ones and in this way holds them fast. The strange thing is that outside time passes all the more quickly. Just now it was autumn, it was winter, it was spring.  –Karl Ove Knausgaard, Summer
