More Happier: Why a Necklace and a Dimmer System Made Us Happy. Plus How to Figure Out Someone’s Tendency

Something Making Us More Happier

  • Elizabeth: Adam and Jack gave her a “Smile” necklace for her birthday. Very appropriate.

Elizabeth mentions being “clutter-blind.” If you want to read more about clutter-blindness, I discuss the subject in my book Outer Order, Inner Calm.

  • Gretchen: Some of Eliza’s friends filmed a scene for their indie movie in our living room. They wrote us a group thank-you card, and I got a big kick from the comment that said simply, “You had a lovely dimmer system.”

Unintended Consequences

A while back, Elizabeth convinced me to watch the Get Back documentary, and because we both loved it, we became super-interested in the Beatles. Our producer Chuck told us Paul McCartney was on tour, and when we realized he was coming to New Jersey, Elizabeth decided that she, Adam, and Jack would come to New York City so we could all go together. We can’t wait! It’s been a long time since we had a big sisterly adventure.

Spotlight on a Tool

If you know about my Four Tendencies framework, and you want to know someone else’s Tendency but it’s not practical to ask that person to take the free, quick quiz, here’s a Flash Evaluation to help determine a Tendency.

It’s a handy resource for doctors, teachers, coaches, managers, trainers, people on first dates, or anyone who wants to get a little extra insight into another person.

Don’t know your own Tendency—whether you’re an Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, or Rebel? Take the quiz here.

The HBO Max TV show Hacks is making Elizabeth very happy.

Quotation

A block down the hill, not far from Teddy’s Market and across from Burrets Building Materials, was a huge tangled wilderness area with a junkyard on the far side and a train track running through the middle. This is one of the places I keep returning to in my imagination; it turns up in my books and stories again and again, under a variety of names.
